Hoch - High Family Association

Descendants of Rudolph and Melchoir Hoch

Annual Reunions

The first Hoch-High Family Reunion was held in 1912 for descendants of several Hoch ancestors who immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1717. Daniel K. High was the leader in this effort and was the first president of the group. Reunions have been held nearly every year since then. The reunion celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Hochs coming to America in 1917, as indicated in the banner photo above. The Hoch-High Family Association currently organizes the reunions, as well as supports historical research and cemetery maintenance. Several compilations of descendants have been published by the association (see the association products page). See the reunion page for information on this year's reunion.

Rudolph and Melchoir Hoch

Rudolph and Melchoir Hoch emmigrated from northern Switzerland in 1717 and came to America in search of religious freedom. Both were of the Mennonite faith.

Rudolph setted near Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, at that time called Swedeland. In about 1725, he moved with his son Johannes to the Oley Valley in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where many of his descendants have lived.

Melchoir setted in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Most of his descendants lived in Bucks County and were members of the Mennonite Church. Refusing to bear arms during the American Revolution, some settled in Ontario, Canada, where many descendants of Melchoir live today.
