Rudolph and Melchoir Hoch emmigrated from northern Switzerland in 1717 and came to America in search of religious freedom. Both were of the Mennonite faith.
Rudolph setted near Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, at that time called Swedeland. In about 1725, he moved with his son Johannes to the Oley Valley in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where many of his descendants have lived.
Melchoir setted in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Most of his descendants lived in Bucks County and were members of the Mennonite Church. Refusing to bear arms during the American Revolution, some settled in Ontario, Canada, where many descendants of Melchoir live today.
